Feed your German Shepherd the optimal raw diet for longevity and health!
This breed-specific German Shepherd recipe is based on the original William Cusick German Shepherd diet and mirrors its nutritional profile. However, it is a ketogenic raw food diet with approximately 60% fat, 35% protein, and 5% carbohydrates. Ideally, this recipe is fed six days a week with one fast day.
Optimum dog food is breed-specific. Just because a high-quality dog food contains organic blueberries, doesn't mean that blueberries are nutritionally valuable to your dog. You may be paying for ingredients that don't benefit (best-case) or are harmful (worst-case) to your dog.
For example, many dog breeds shouldn't eat fish, soy, corn or rice. However, many dog foods do contain those ingredients.
The German Shepherd Dog originated in the Alsatian Region of Germany. Naturally, it is designed to best consume, digest and extract nutrients from foods native to this area.
The German Shepherd Dog is unique because it has a very short colon in comparison to other breeds of the same body weight. For this reason, a high fiber diet is required to slow the movement of food through this breed's digestive tract, thereby allowing more time for the nutrients to be drawn out. This high fiber diet will result in a larger stool but better assimilation of the food. I caution that this fiber must be from the proper sources and the amount should be carefully controlled. Too much fiber or fiber of the wrong type can cause impacted bowels.
The environment for the Alsatian region of Germany provided this breed with primary food sources of beef and leafy greens like cabbage and alfalfa. Thus, a blend of these food sources is the ideal base diet for the German Shepherd. Conversely, the worst commercial food blend for the German Shepherd Dog would contain fish (large amounts), soy, or rice.
For only $60 per week you can feed your German Shepherd the best food it can eat and support it's long-term health and longevity. Your dog will live longer and need the vet less often, hence saving you money. Your furry family member will be grateful!
